Northern California painter Mark Roko Jurasin began his career at the California College of Arts and Crafts, receiving broad exposure to all of the visual arts, studying advertising design and earning a BFA. After a career in advertising as an art director, ad agency co- owner and independent designer, painting became his life going forward.
"Philosophically, I see painting as an alive, of-the-moment kind of balancing act, where the excitement comes out of the extemporaneous electric impulse, the found invention, and unexpected surprise. This makes for a joyful process, not just in gestural meanderings, but colorful multi-layered surfaces, visually arresting images and a sense of immediacy; not the result of a series of thoroughly planned and executed steps. Mostly non- objective, with a concentration on strong color and design, I try to move with the paint, let the impulses define the result, while occasionally creating a feeling of a representational image, or the sense of one imagined."
